My darling mom past away last week and her last four days were spent amongst angels at her local Hospice. Not only did they take care of my sweet mom but they also took care of my dad, my brothers and sisters. They allow you to stay 24/7 at the side of your dear one. Their cupboards and refridgerator were full of donated food and drink for the use of the families. I now know why I was made of aware of GG. I have had the opportunity to buy (for Free) hundreds of items but never knew how I would ever use them all. Well now I know.
I love you Mom!!!!!!

How would I find my local hospice group? Also, who should I talk to?

Call your local doctor or hospital they can direct you.
Yes hospice is great. When my sister was dying of cancer most of the family lived in KS and she lived in TX. Hospice got a hotel in Houston to donate the family a room for a week. Many of us would never have got to say our goodbyes otherwise, and the Hotel never said a word about how many of us were crammed on the beds and floor in that room.

I'm so sorry for your loss. And thank you so much for guiding me to what I will do with my items that I want to donate. We had hospice for my MIL before she passed away several years ago. They came to the house everyday. They were so loving and helped not only my MIL but the whole family. I can't say enough good things about the precious people that give so much to those that have to face such a hard time.
Thanks again. Peace be with you!!

What a fabulous idea! My mother spent the last week of her life at Hospice, too. Despite the difficulty of the situation, we could not have asked for better care for mom. Over the past four years I've wondered how I could ever "repay" Hospice for all that they did for our family, not only during mom's time there, but after her passing too. Thank you for this suggestion - I'm going to pack up my donation box now.

Condolences on the loss of your mom. What a great suggestion, though, for another place GGers can donate their abundance.

I'm sorry for your loss of your mother. Thank you for transforming that loss into an opportunity for many of us to help out a very worthy cause. I didn't know that hospices would take donations.

So sorry for your loss. Thank you for reminding us of the wonderful things that hospice does. We had hospice home care take care of my grandmother. They were so wonderful with her in her final days and showed just as much concern for the entire family (I was 9 mos pregnant) as they did for her.
My prayers are with you and your family.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I know that being at your mothers side meant a lot not only to her but your family as well.
I work at hospice and it's a great place. There is sadness and yet there is a feeling of happiness. It's nice to see families at peace with the dying process. Comfort is the key. Our hospice is a not for profit so we rely on donations. You're doing a great thing by donating to other families that are going thru difficult times. Thank you.
