Lisa, I've been getting our meat from local farmers. If you can ask the local farms in your area I think their meat is your best bet. I've read that a lot of cattle are grass fed until a month or two before they go to slaughter. Then they're fed corn to fatten them up. So it's important to ask if the cattle are also "grass finished". HTH.

Sorry I keep on this as I do not mean to highjack. All the times I have bought meat I like mine grain fed out that last month. That is what causes the marbeling which equals tender cuts. The rest of the year I want to know they are eating grass and hay with no hormones and antibiotics. I know some do not like to talk about this but to me this is normal conversation.

This sounds like something my girls need to see, they think Arby's is a "good for you" restaurant.

You guys don't even know how happy I am to see this conversation blooming more!

I did do some price comparisons today and Target and Kroger (I have a tiny Target, but they still have organic milk 1/2 gallons). This way i can compare to farmer's markets and any other little spots I come across. Kroger has Laura's Lean beef which I believe it said is a local thing to KY. I will have to do more research on this lady's food. It's supposedly completely grain fed no hormones etc... I'm really in to this now. DH is his usual "whatever" but I have control of the budget, money and food so it's all up to me anyway.

That is my basic philosophy. He eats what I cook. I am not 100% organic on everything. I love food too much. Occasional splurges are fine in my book as long as our normal day to day diet is basic food.

LOL, thank you very much! I do think so myself hehe. She is just TOO smart for me! Yesterday I picked up her brush which has been in our bedroom for a couple weeks. She looks at it and goes "BRUSH!" I'm like holy cow kid how did you know that?! My brushes are round... she just knows her stuff!
