You really should try roasting a whole chicken. If you can handle the rotisserie chickens (carving them), then you can do a roast chicken and save half or more off the cost of the pre-cooked chicken.

The BEST way to roast a chicken to get it to be juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside like a rotisserie chicken is to roast it on a vertical roaster (like this one).

Get a 4-5 lb fryer chicken (they usually already have the giblets removed for you, otherwise you'll just have to scoop them out of the cavity). Rinse it, pat it dry, rub with olive oil. Season liberally with your favorite seasoning blend.

Pour some water or cooking wine in the bottom of the vertical roaster. Place the chicken on the roaster (fold the wings back over themselves to tuck them in). Place the whole thing in a baking dish in case the drippings overflow.

Roast at 450 for 10 minutes per pound plus 10 minutes (I use the convection setting at 400 for the same amount of time). You might have to put some foil on the top of the bird if it gets too brown while roasting. A 5 lb chicken only takes an hour.

Check the temp with an instant-read thermometer. Should be at least 165 in the breast.

Let it rest for a few minutes before you begin carving it. The legs/thighs will just come right off with a little pull. Sooo yummy. You'll never spend the extra money on a store-bought rotisserie chicken again.

I'm still confused about why people are putting their crockpots in the sink to make them safer? Putting an electrical appliance in something where the water can come on or drip just seems scary to me.

True. There could be a fear of it tipping over (maybe pets that can get on the counter). If you have two sinks you just have to be sure to push the spout over to the empty sink. I just put mine on the counter. My crock pot is large oval-shaped and probably wouldn't fit in the sink, plus it has dishes in it haha.

I looked up things like crock pot safety and whatnot... couldn't find anything about putting a crock pot in the sink.

Some of us are just kind of freaky about crockpots because some time in our lifetime we heard some crazy story about the baby grabbed the cord or a crockpot blew up. Probably none of it is true but it sticks in your brain. I have more crockpots than any two person household should have but I will not go to sleep with one on.

I have to concur with the crockpot for cooking tender meats. I use it for chicken breast, and any other meats that I want to tear apart and use for other dishes. I do use my pressure cooker in a pinch, but the meat doesn't seem to get quite as tender as in the crock.

When I need to leave my crock on over nite, I place it dead center on the stove top.

I boil mine... especially when I'm grilling it. Boil it in a big stock pot for a good 20-40 mins then take it out... I then throw it on the grill for flavor & color (adding bbq sauce, spices)

I don't like using the crockpot for meat. But love to use the pressure cooker instead. It help the seasoning to get into the meat and tenderise it at the same time.

I like the crockpot method as well, it turns out really nice. My other favorite method is the Chick-Can. It's similar to an upright roaster, but you put a can of beer or soda pop in the holder and put the chicken over that. The chicken turns out so juicy and well done. It's a winner every time!
