Default What have you done to save money today?

I love hearing how people are saving money in all kinds of ways. Today I have:

1) made a homemade marinade for tonight's dinner using some mustard that has not gotten used up
2) played board games with the kids instead of going out for expensive entertainment
3) drank homemade tea instead of soda
4) took lunch to work in reusable containers
5) resisted (yet again) buying those adorable shoes- I might give in, though, I think they will TRULY and magically make me a more patient and kind person when I am wearing them!

How have you saved money today?

~~Ate leftover grilled hotdogs and hamburgers (really not too bad, added some fresh side dishes)
~~Made brownies with a free box of mix for a friends birthday (wrapped up real cute and sassy....thrilled her!)
~~Resisted the urge to drive 30 miles to the nearest bookstore and just went to my local library (I'm desperate for something new to read!!!) Surprisingly, I found a newly released book available to check out!

Debbie, I did the same thing with library movies today! And considering how bad I often am about returning stuff on time, that definitely counts.

Let's see...

Today, we ate at home for all 3 meals. (Yay! Been eating out a lot lately.)
Used up some stuff in the freezer before it gets freezer burn.

Tonya- I was just reading in Good Housekeeping that the "thrill" you get from buying something doesn't last as long as spending money to spend time with someone or help someone. It was really interesting. Like taking a vacation feels better longer than buying a new car.

Sorry- I just looked for a link on line but couldn't find it. It was in the July issue with the Jonas Brothers on the cover.

HTH.

I have a very casual job, but I own a lot of dress clothes, seems like for all my birthdays and stuff I get fancy clothing. I have a closet full of clothes. I am leaving to head to the nearest large city, and going to the opera. My mom is driving, so I am saving on gas, the tickets to the show were a gift from my mom. I was going to purchase a new top while in Edmonton, but instead went to my dress closet, and got a top out of there I don't think I have ever worn, in fact I think I have totally forgot that it was in there. I saved probably fifty to sixty on a new dress top, do need to spend a little while I am there, but hopefully no more then this months travel budget

I resisted walking to breakfast with Jake and had english muffins and he had cereal. Finally made it to the store last night spent $82/saved 79. REsisted the 4pks/$19 special cause my freezer needs defrosting. Also was good and only bought 1 of the $1 sundaes-had to reward myself somehow. Had a bunch more Q's ready but was ruthless on do I really need that? Gonna be housesitting mext 2 weeks so gonna let mother hubbards cupboards go a little bare

Packed my lunch - I'm a sucker for take out. My butt proves it! LOL

Made sure all lights were off when I left - I have a terrible time with this. Especially my closet light and the girls' rooms.

Left the air off for yet another day. YAY ME!!!

Am resisting the grocery store because I only have $5 left in the budget til Fri and we are going to need milk. Those specials will be there this weekend. (I hope)

The day is still young, but so far I have:

1) Made 2 batches of Kool-aid so we can drink that all day instead of soda or more expensive bottled drinks
2) Put a beef roast in the crockpot for dinner tonight instead of eating out
3) Made sticky buns for breakfast instead of fast food after I dropped off my oldest son to driver's training
4) Put clothes on short wash cycle since they weren't really all that dirty
5) I am going to resist the urge to shop for anything today or even drive anywhere after I pick up DS from driver's ed and just work from home today

How have you saved money today?
